Jeannette Rankin Day honored in Montana

MONTANA – Today marks Jeannette Rankin Day in Montana, a holiday declared by Governor Greg Gianforte to honor the suffragist. Rankin led efforts to make Montana the 11th state where women could vote.

Rankin was elected to Congress in 1916, becoming the only woman to vote on legislation aimed at granting women the right to vote. April 2, 1917, was the day Rankin was sworn into Congress, a significant milestone in her pioneering career.
