with author Lorissa Rinehart and the Rankin Foundation

Winning the Earthquake (St. Martin’s Press, November 2025) is the first major biography of Jeannette Rankin, the pioneering suffragist, activist and first woman elected to the U.S. Congress. Written by historian Lorissa Rinehart, the book reintroduces our American hero, whose fearless leadership shaped the women’s rights and peace movements of the 20th century and whose legacy continues through the work of the Jeannette Rankin Foundation. Founded with a bequest from Jeannette Rankin’s estate, the Rankin Foundation carries her mission forward by awarding unrestricted Scholar Grants to nontraditional students who are transforming their futures through education.

We invite you to join Rinehart and the Rankin Foundation in a nationwide book tour!

“Born on a Montana ranch in 1880, Jeannette Rankin knew how to ride a horse, make a fire and read the sky for weather. But most of all, she knew how to talk to people and convince them of her vision for America. It was this rare skill that led her, in 1916, to become the first woman ever elected to the House of Representatives.”

— Lorissa Rinehart, author of Winning the Earthquake, How Jeannette Rankin Defied All Odds to Become the First Woman in Congress
