Meet Our Scholar: Jennifer L.
Jennifer is a renewal Scholar enrolled at the University of Maryland pursuing a Bachelors in Social Science. After being turned down many jobs for her lack of education, she had enough and decided to go back to school to finish her degree she started in 1989. As a child of an alcoholic, many of these struggles carried on into Jennifer's adult life. Just as her great-grandmother did to her, Jennifer has always preached to her children that they must go to college if they want to be successful, and now she is practicing what she has been preaching! She can't wait to walk the stage at graduation and show her children just how much her education will benefit both her and them. Jennifer is working hard to achieve her dream and currently holds a 3.92 G.P.A.!
“Thanks to the Rankin Fund, I can continue to "walk the talk" that I have always preached to my children: that they must go to college. And that may be the thing that has the biggest and most long-lasting impact of being a recipient of this scholarship—my children witnessing me accomplishing this difficult goal that means so much to me, and through that, knowing that they can do it themselves.”
