Meet Our Scholar: Jennifer B.
Jennifer is a renewal Scholar enrolled at Washburn University currently working on her Bachelor's degree in Social Work with hopes of gaining her Master's degree to become a licensed therapist. Coming out of high school, Jennifer initially enrolled in school, but when she married her husband she dropped out in order to save money. She then became a stay at home mom, and has been for the past 17 years. While she loved being a stay at home mom to her 6 children, Jennifer wants more for herself and for her family. She has faced the loss of her father, a son, and multiple pregnancies and hopes to be able to use her experiences with loss and grief to help those struggling with the same feelings. Jennifer's passion is to help people and is very eager to turn her passion into a career.
“With the JRF scholarship that I have received, I was able to reduce the amount of student loans that I needed to help pay for school. It has blessed my children in allowing them to see their mom working towards the goal of gaining an education and seeing that it is never too late to pursue a dream. They have been more helpful and very supportive of my endeavor to become a social worker and this scholarship has made that endeavor possible.”
