Meet Our Scholar: Doris
Doris is a renewal Scholar enrolled at Shorter University pursuing a Bachelors in Business Administration. Doris is a survivor and a fighter. She considers herself a victor, not a victim, and is a survivor of child abuse, sexual molestation, and domestic violence from different members of her family. Doris plans to use her degree to support those who have been through abuse and have been put at a disadvantage in life because of her past experiences. Today, Doris has closed on her own home, healed from the scars that her abusers have left behind, and has seen her children succeed. Her three younger children are focused on school and have dreams to go to college as well. Doris hopes to open a non profit organization that will enable families to become self sufficient.
“The JRF Scholarship has not only been an instrumental part of my education, but has had an impact on me personally. I have endured many hardships along this journey, the encouragement , care, and genuine concern of the JRF sisterhood has been a tremendous blessing. JRF scholarship is not just about providing financial support for the scholars, they provide love, resources, and as much as possible they try to help provide solutions to life circumstances that could hinder you moving forward. The support is overwhelming, because this sisterhood is truly dedicated to you and the success of your journey.”
