Meet Our Scholar: Anne
Anne is a renewal Scholar enrolled at Johnson State College pursuing her Bachelors in Professional Studies. She realized she wanted to go back to school after many years of hardship. Anne became an emancipated minor at the age of 16, and fell down a path of drugs and alcohol. After a few years, she decided she needed to go to college, but after only 2 semesters, Anne was pregnant and dropped out. She fell down the path of drugs and alcohol once again, and eventually served prison time for her actions. In 1997, she took her last drink and has lead a positive life since. Now, she has 3 children and a loving husband. She hopes to earn her degree to help better support her family and give back to her community by serving in the non-profit sector. Anne is on track to graduate this year or the following year and has been excelling academically with a 3.98 G.P.A. to prove it!
“Continuing my education and earning my degree will have a meaningful and positive effect on myself, my family and my community. I have long been aware of how the lack of a degree has had a bearing on my self-esteem, my income, and my influence on my children’s view of higher education. I have always extended my energy to the community in a variety of volunteer positions and will strive to continue to do so. Once I earn my degree, I look forward to using my gained knowledge and higher understanding to create a greater impact.”
