Karen Sterk is champion for women, a champion for education and a champion for social justice.
Most recently, Karen was the Founding Director of Racial Justice at the YWCA of Greater Atlanta. For two years, she served as the Program and Development Director, responsible for both the YWCA’s programs and fundraising. She was part of the Senior Leadership Team that revitalized the YWCA of Greater Atlanta, taking the organization from a $300K deficit to break even in one year.
Karen spent the previous ten years at the YWCA of Minneapolis, leaving as the VP of Health and Wellness. Her drive to create and grow programs while building financial vitality was welcomed. During her tenure her team tripled the number of members and revenues. She was part of the team that launched the YWCA’s Racial Justice Program It’s Time to Talk: Forums on Race in 2002.
Karen is married to Ron Warren. They have two adult daughters, a son in law, a beautiful granddaughter, Zora and a rescued greyhound.
Scholarship Program Manager
LaTrena Stokes is a woman who knows that ALL things are possible to those who believe.
LaTrena was destined to link arms with Jeannette Rankin Scholarship Fund in the summer of 2011 as a scholar. Fate would have it that she now links her passion with JRF as a staff member. LaTrena’s perseverance has propelled her to succeed and to help those that she cross paths with do the same. LaTrena has a passion for people and is dedicated to excellence. She has a BA from the University of Georgia in Human Development & Family Science and a BA from Andersonville Theological Seminary in Theology. LaTrena has received a number of awards including GA Woman of the Year Scholar and UGA Amazing Student.
LaTrena is the proud parent of two boys Cameron and Jeremy Stokes.
Digital Engagement Associate
Jacki is the Digital Engagement Associate. Jacki has more than 10 years of working with non-profit organizations in the field of marketing, communications and development. She spent over five years at Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia empowering girls. She holds a double BA degree in Journalism/Mass Communications and Spanish from Andrews University. Her special gift is social media where she has done a great job engaging a diverse group of stakeholders. She has a great passion for advancing opportunities for women and girls and is very excited to move JRF’s mission forward. Jacki is married to Randy and keeps busy with their three children: Rayna 12, Lorenzo 9 and Joaquin 3.
Development and Finance Associate
Alexis is a fresh graduate from the University of Georgia with a degree in Non-Profit Management and Psychology. She is excited to be serving as the Development and Finance Associate for JRF, as it lets her raise money for such a worthy cause and then ensure it is all accounted for properly.
Alexis has a sharp eye for detail and loves finding new ways to engage JRF supporters, especially in telling the stories of our amazing Scholars. She is inspired daily by the sacrifices the JRF Scholars make for their families and their education.
When she's not in the office, Alexis can be found walking her rescued lab-mix Marcie and cheering on the Georgia Bulldogs! Go Dawgs!
